Why 'Korean Kanakaraju' is Varun Tej’s most critical image makeover yet

Lungi, wild hair, and lethal tattoos. Varun Tej's character in Korean Kanakaraju seems to be quite a challenging, colourful one. After a series of flops in recent years, the Mega hero is looking forward to this Indo-Korean horror-comedy later this year.

This is not the first time that Varun Tej is taking a shot at a total image makeover. He tried to do it conclusively with Matka, a colossal disaster that felt like it was birthed in the shadows of Pushpa Raj. On a scale of heroism, his character in Matka was more intense than what Ghani could ever dream of. Operation Valentine and Gandeevadhari Arjuna were classy (and costly) mistakes.

Korean Kanakaraju presents Varun Tej with an opportunity to reinvent himself after a lull. He rightly allowed 2025 to be a dry year in his filmography. If his performance comes with a heavy-hearted, weary tinge, nothing like it!

Korean Kanakaraju is directed by Merlapaka Gandhi of Express Raja and Venkatadri Express fame. Ritika Nayak and the in-form Satya (recently seen in Nari Nari Naduma Murari) have prominent roles.
