Mrithyunjay is a true-blue genre movie, an investigative thriller at that. Its teaser was released today by the team, following which SS Rajamouli endorsed it on X.
Speaking at the event, actor Sree Vishnu stated that Mrithyunjay doesn't digress from its central plot. It features no regular commercial elements such as comedy. "Only content is what we set out to offer. The producers (Sandeep Gunnam and Vinay Chilakapati) have been particular about it from the beginning. Regular commercial movies can be gauged during their making. However, the true output range of a thriller is evident only after the editing is completed. Mrithyunjay's story takes place in Hyderabad. However, the locations feel fresh. The director (Hussain Sha Kiran) chose rarely explored locations on the outskirts of the city. The story takes place between a very limited set of characters," Sree Vishnu shared.
The hero plays someone who picks up obituary ads. Raccha Ravi plays a compounder. Ayyappa Sharma plays a graveyard's caretaker. Nellore Sudharshan plays a mortuary driver.
Director Hussain Sha Kiran said that he was always asked to narrate love stories and rom-coms by producers. "I have always wanted to make thrillers. It was Sandeep who first asked me to narrate any story I liked. That's when I sensed it was going to work for me! The hero of this movie is a villain who comes of age. He is not a hero from day one. Sree Vishnu's performance is brilliant. Vidhya Sagar's cinematography and Kaala Bhairava's music are phenomenal. Editor Sreekar Prasad sir brought the whole project to life," he added.
Producer Sandeep Gunnam said that Sree Vishnu has done so much variety. "When I listened to the story, I could only think of him for the intense role. It's a great story by the director. The songs are really good and the background score is great," he added.
It was clarified that Sree Vishnu is not playing a dual role. While Jay is the protagonist's name in the movie, 'Mrithyu' in the title denotes the end of every individual.
February 27 is when the film will head to theatres.
