'Manjummel Boys' effect: Producers to be questioned over suspicions of fraud

'Manjummel Boys' has been in the thick of a financial controversy. The Mollywood blockbuster, which grossed Rs 220 Cr at the box-office recently, is at the centre of a suspected, unproven scam affecting the Malayalam film industry.

It all began with Siraj Valiyathara Hameed, an investor, alleging that Parava Films (which produced 'Manjummel Boys') refused to share the promised profit margin from the film with him. As a result, the ED filed an information report to question producers Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir and Shawn Antony. In April this year, the bank accounts of Parava Films was frozen following a court order.

However, the scope of the investigation has now been widened. Several other Mollywood blockbusters will also be investigated by the ED. The central agency will verify documents to understand how much was invested in making those movies. The returns will then be matched and their sources examined.
