In 2013, Allari Narehs's Action 3D became a costly misadventure for its producer-director, Anil Sunkara. The 3D comedy film co-starred Shaam, Vaibhav, and Raju Sundaram, and was based on The Hangover (2009).
Sunkara made the buddy comedy for 3D screens when the then-united Andhra Pradesh barely had fifteen such theatres. Had he made the directorial in 2D, the budget wouldn't have exceeded Rs 5 Cr. "The film collected Rs 11 Cr. But since the budget was Rs 16 Cr due to the 3D format, I made losses. It was released in both Telugu and Tamil," Sunkara recently shared in an interview.
The entertainer's release was attended by technical obstacles and post-release edits. "Apart from multiplexes and A centers, the film was released in 3D even in C Centers using Anaglyph 3D technology to overcome poor infrastructure in C centers for which special glasses were imported from China. After getting feedback from the audience on the day of release, 15 minutes of film were edited out of the second half," the film's Wikipedia page says. Action 3D had music by Bappi Lahiri and BGM by Sunny MR.
