Ilanti Cinema Meereppudu Chusundaru is the title of an upcoming experimental movie that is claimed to be a single-shot movie with zero cuts. An amalgam of 1,400 dialogues, the film is slated to hit the cinemas on September 19.
The makers have stated that single-shot movies let their actors be spontaneous and real. "No film school has ever invented a technique where actors perform for 100 minutes at a stretch. I designed a new acting technique for this movie so that the actors don't get stuck anywhere during the shoot," the film's director said.
Usually, when the teams of genuinely experimental films speak about their movies, the viewer is amazed by their passionate speeches. The team of Ilanti Cinema Meereppudu Chusundaru made their film seem like a marketing gimmick more than a pathbreaking experiment. They have failed to inspire confidence in the audience that they have indeed mounted a rare movie. When the team behind Vishwak Sen's Gaami spoke at length about their toil and hard work, they inspired confidence.
In recent years, a handful of single-shot movies have come out. Agadam (2014), the Tamil horror film, holds the Guinness World Record for the longest uncut film. The entire 123-minute movie was shot in a single take. Iravin Nizhal (2022; Tamil) was billed as Asia's first "non-linear one-shot" film.
