Mahakali, created by Prasanth Varma of HanuMan fame, is part of the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe. Bhoomika Shetty, a less-known actress who is just trying to find her foot in the film industry, has been roped in for a central character named Maha.
Bhoomika aka Bhoomi recently starred as Satyadev's wife in Vijay Deverakonda-starrer Kingdom. Although the film was popular, she didn't attain fame. Even niche popularity evaded her. But the big-ticket movie might have helped her grab Mahakali, a multi-lingual release with a potential to become a decent release in Telugu.
Since she knows Yakshagana, a traditional stage performance, the makers of Mahakali must have felt the role totally suits her. Bhoomika Shetty has also acted in Sharathulu Varthisthai, starring Chaitanya Rao Madadi in the lead.
