SIR was released in 2023 and became a hit in both Telugu and Tamil (in which it was titled Vaathi). Many were surprised that director Venky Atluri worked with a Tamil hero. However, Dhanush was not the first choice for the social drama.
Venky Atluri has revealed that the first choice was Ravi Teja. Since the mass hero was busy with some other assignment at that time, he asked the director if he could wait for him. Later, producer S Naga Vamsi got Atluri pitch the script to Dhanush, who immediately okayed the project. Ravi Teja was more than happy to ask Atluri not to wait for his dates. "He told me Dhanush is a superb actor and asked me to do the film with him," Atluri revealed.
Dhanush, most recently seen in Idly Kottu, awaits the release of Aanand L Rai’s Tere Ishk Mein (Hindi). Ravi Teja is promoting Mass Jathara, to be released in theatres on October 31. Venky Atluri is directing actor Suriya's 46th movie.
