With Vivek Oberoi doing Sandeep Vanga Reddy-Prabhas' Spirit, movie buffs are talking about how his career took off on a massive note in the early 2000s, only to collapse dramatically very soon. RGV's Company, Mani Ratnam's Saathiya, Yuva, and Omkara were among his early hits. So, what caused the crash?
The most frequently cited reason is a highly-publicized press conference in 2003 where Vivek Oberoi accused Salman Khan of threatening him over his relationship with Aishwarya Rai. Oberoi himself has stated that following this event, his success "evaporated" because a "bunch of people, who had a lot of power in Bollywood, decided 'You are not going to work here anymore'.
However, this theory is rejected by Salman Khan's fans. He reportedly rejected major films like Munnabhai MBBS and Hum Tum. Some accounts also mention he had a growing reputation for being arrogant due to his initial success and had spats with powerful producers like Aditya Chopra.
Spirit, an international project of massive proportions, could well spark a new innings in Vivek Oberoi's career.
