Rani Akkadevi: Gunadabedangi (beauty of virtues) or the Bhairavi (courageous warrior) Chalukya Dynasty - 11th Century

As an ode to this beauty we have draped in a rich pink kanchi-pattu saree with heavy zari work. Pi. denotes a sense of sophistication, benevolence and calmness. Kankatala opens its first store at Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Queens of Sarees – Kankatala opened its ninth showroom – it’s first in Hyderabad today at Road No: 36, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. The showroom inaugurated by Dr. Konijeti Rosaiah (Former Governor of Tamilnadu). The chairman Mallik Kankatala and 3rd gen director Anirudh Kankatala have travelled over 20 days to more than 25 weaving clusters to handpick and curate the best collection for the Hyderabad store. Kankatala opened its store in Jubilee Hills in the vibrant city of Hyderabad, adding colour to the already beautiful cityscape. They have eight stores in Andhra Pradesh and are proud to complete the series of Navaratna with this precious pearl of a store in Hyderabad, before they embark on starting another series of stores!

This prestigious Hyderabad store is dedicated to Rani Bhagmati — the mystic 16th cent, queen of Hyderabad. Kankatala has a golden rule which they haven't broken in the last 75 years. That rule is that each and every saree among the thousands they have, is carefully handpicked by a member of the family, with equal ernphasis on quality: weave, design and fabric. Some of their customers have been with them for generations, and this loyalty only increases their responsibility and accountability. They have a wide range of hand woven sarees - each one hand picked by a family member which include Patan Patolas, Peahen's. Kanjivarams, Banarasis: Khadis, Kates, Linens. Anirudh Kankatala, the youngest director of the family business has finished his Bachelors in Finance from Penn State University in the US and has returned to join the family business in 2015. Roth Bhagmati — the Mystic Queen of Hyderabad. - Qutb Shahi Dynasty of Golkonda - 16th Century Our Hyderabad queen has been draped in the classic Banarasi - a weave older than history and tradition. with heavy antique zari work. Royal blue for the blue-blooded princess. Flowers have always been a wonderful tribute to women, and their beauty, been an expression of love and as a symbolic offering to the deities. Floral motifs echo positivity and purity reflected very frequently on a lot of Banarasi weaves. Bhagrnati's collection is inspired by the floral motifs and jaal jamdani, a Mughal inspiration from the use of intricate floral and meenakshi detailing, a common feature on the Mughal monuments and alike.

Rani Rudramma Devi — The Queen ahead of her times — Kakatiya's pride - Kakatiya Dynasty- 13th Century

We styled our Rudramma Devi in a majestic kanchi-pattu in rich red adorned with the royal animals in red. Animals used in wadare like the horse and the elephants are a regular feature in kanchi pattu weaves. Another common feature being the noble peacock which were always seen as a guardian to the royalty. The zamindari border in gold tissue was a status symbol worn only by the royal lineage. Rani Rudramma has been set against a backdrop of the Kakatiya dynasty's map with pins pointing at Orugallu (Current day Warangal) and strategic plan drafts since she is an able administrator, warrior, diplomat and earned the right to be a queen by proving her mettle despite belonging to the royal lineage.The animals used by the noble families for hunting, wars or reared as muse are a recurring theme on the handloom saree and are known as the Shikarr gha motifs.Back in the days what they saw is what was woven on the sarees and hence have volumes to speak of those times.
