Money Matters - An Exhibition of Paintings by Thirumala Thirupathi at Iconart Gallery

Money became one of the major necessities in today's modern age, apart from the food, cloth and shelter, which were once considered as necessary for human existence. The personality of a person is seen in terms of how much money he earns or possess, money effects human relationships and it has both negative and positive usage in our daily life.
It depends on an individual, how he wants to spend his hard earned money. We are living in a consumerist world and money is the only material for our daily transaction to buy products.
My association with the concept of money started with my father death, I was forced to think about the issue of money matters and these ideas got transformed into my paintings, because of my pre - occupation around multiple questions around money.

The painting of Rs 500 note shows how mahatma Gandhi is keeping a cloth on his nose, mouth and making a satire about baloney, usage of money, of which he is ashamed.
In another painting aRs. 500 note is being juxtaposed with poisonous snakes to denote the negative usage of money. In its multiple usages in our life another paintings shows the gestures of hands in one rupee coin. I tried to articulate the power of money which can affect a man sleep patterns too. Money can be fruitful like a sweet Banana and sometimes it can be destructive when invested in buying weapons.

''For sale" is another work which deals with 'Dowry system in marriages in our country, it’s a satire on social issues and the heavy expenditure in wedding ceremonies. Some people believing palmistry and they think there is a money line called 'Dhanrekha'in our hand, as a gift from God while hard work, honesty and truth are taken a backseat.

The role of money in my life is shown in another painting, where I am travelling with my wife in a boat made up of one rupee note. Interestingly the river of life is without water and we are trying our voyage here.
